Charting the rapid evolution of smart homes
We dipped into the Plume data archives to understand just how quickly smart homes are evolving:
- We are more reliant on smart devices than ever—globally, the average number of devices connected to Plume-powered networks has more than doubled (8 to 19) since December 2015, with the average number of IoT gadgets and gizmos almost tripling (4.2 to 12.5) over the same time frame.
- Consumers are enjoying faster WiFi services—the global average download speed for Plume-powered networks was 317 Mbps in December 2021, more than double that of December 2018.
- Smartphones consume the most data—from video streaming to online banking, smartphones are arguably the most versatile device connected to our networks. They topped the data consumption chart with a global average of 96.3 GB downloaded per home during December 2021.
